6 Reasons Why you Missed Your Period [Other than Pregnancy]
Reason 1. Extreme exercise
Exercising a lot and losing weight quickly, especially if you aren’t consuming enough calories and healthy food, can cause you to miss your period.
Reason 2. Stress
When under stress, your body produces cortisol. Depending on how your body tolerates stress, the cortisol may lead to delayed or light periods- or no period at all(amenorrhea)
Reason 3. Birth Control
If you missed your period while on the pill and you haven’t missed any doses, pregnancy isn’t likely, instead, the hormones in the pill are likely the cause.
Reason 4. Thyroid
Thyroid disease also can cause your periods to stop for several months or longer, a condition called amenorrhea. If your body’s immune system causes thyroid disease, other glands including your ovaries may be involved. This can lead to early menopause(before the age of 40)
Reason 5. Anorexia
Amenorrhea can be a sign of exercise-induced anorexia related to energy deprivation from not eating enough.
Reason 6. PCOS
A key sign of PCOS is irregular periods or missed periods. The effects of PCOS on the ovaries can make a girl stop ovulation. PCOS cannot be diagnosed unit 2-3 years after a girl’s first menstrual cycle because it can take up to 2 years after the first period for any girl’s cycle to become regular.
